Every time the government announces "Free Stuff!", my first question is:

Who are you gonna rob to pay for it?

It's getting to the point where there's nobody left to rob.

TANSTAAFL

If printing money were the path to prosperity, Zimbabwe and Venezuela would be the richest countries on earth instead of economic basket cases.

If money alone were enough to extricate people from poverty and help them sustain themselves with a job and a strong family, then the more than $1 trillion spent on anti-poverty programs since the Great Society was launched by President Johnson in 1964 would have reduced the number of poor people in America

Any time the government starts subsidizing something, the only competition is to see who can raise their prices highest to get the most "free money".

The two economic sectors with the most out-of-control costs are education and health care -- exactly where the government has been busiest trying to "control" costs.

Mate, you're talking about a system where a TV show about a chemist who turns to making illegal drugs to pay off his medical bills makes perfect sense!

Most people want to "be rich" so they won't have to work - which is one of the reasons they don't get rich.

Oh my, YES :!: Anyone who won't work at studying it, even part time, is gambling, not investing.

I get into trends only after they're proven... I get out as soon as they don't make sense... and I turn my back on nine out of 10 opportunities that come my way.

I like this one. The author of it states that except at first, the big hoaxes and bubbles were avoided over 30 years. For some reason, his slow but steady work paid off.

My investing method is to study the ads for various newsletters, figure out the strategy they are using if possible, try it out with spreadsheets to see if it is workable for me, and last of all, try it with cash.

There is always a way to limit your downside as long as you identify what that is before you make the investment – and stick to it. Even if you feel like you shouldn't.
From the same source.

Not enough caution when starting out (ouch  ), but learning

You are way, waaaaay off. We have spent over 15 trillion dollars on Johnson's welfare boondoggle, and the cost just keeps going up every year. Even worse, they borrowed most of the money and the vigorish on that is nearly equal to the actual spending. And after all that, not only are "the poor" still poor, there are more of them than ever.

How could anybody ever have believed that punishing hard work and success while rewarding failure and irresponsibility was a good idea?

Welfare is pay without work. In order to provide pay without work for some, others have to work without pay. We used to call that slavery.
