Earlier today, I heard about SecDec Chuck Hagel's resignation (i.e.: firing).

I wonder if Michèle Flournoy, one alleged potential replacement, is for the A-10, or if she's just another politician who is ignorant of the requirements for the CAS mission.

As for the other possibilities...

* I know nothing about Ashton Carter.

* I understand that Jack Reed may have said no.

* I also understand that Kathleen Hicks is a long-shot.

I wish there was a way to use "social media" to convince Obama and Sec of Defense Chuck Hagel to not only stop the retirement, but to upgrade the A-10. Instead, Hagel seems inclined to use the A-10 funds to buy a few F-35As (groan).
In my wildest dreams, I would like to see the abolishment or modification of the "Key West Agreement", where the Army agreed to NOT have fixed wing aircraft. (i.e.: This would leave open the door for the Army to refurbish the A-10 for their own use.) FFI, see URLs:
A socialist traitor in office whose sole purpose is to bring down America, combined with an “Air Force” who only wants “Fighters” and “Bombers”. That’s been a problem with the “Air Force” for a while now. The fact that the Air Force wants to renege on their part of the agreement to supply the army with proper fixed wing ground support (“Attack”) aircraft, should relinquish the Army from the agreement. And someone who can should forward the point to someone in the Army who can compel the Air Force with that fact ("If you don't want to give us support we'll do it ourselves").

At this point I'm surprised that the AF hasn't tried to get the Marines to give up their Harrier IIs. Maybe that's next on the list after they've gutted the Army's ability to provide CAS. And then insist that all the aircraft on Navy Carriers have to be flown by the Air Force - swabbies should only be concerned with driving the ships.

Then the army should take over all land based missiles and remotely piloted vehicles launched from the ground.

And thus the second American Civil War starts.

Could get really bad.
Homeland Security could be in charge of all the continental ballistic missles.

AN inexpensive alternative tohe A-10 is the Embraer Super Tucano. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_EM ... per_Tucano
Brazilian ground attack aircraft.

The A-10 can carry far more firepower in guns and bombs/missiles (10x more) for a longer distance, is faster, has heavier guns that will take out a tank. I doubt a 20mmm will do more than scratch the paint on a tank. The A-10s are also a lot more durable, able to take a heck of a lot of damage and still fly and fight. The E-Super Tucano looks a lot more fragile.

In a firefight, I'd want the A-10 rather than the E-Super Tucano flying overhead.

How's about an aircraft similar to the Russian Helicopter - MI-24 (NATO Designation Hind) or its upgraded versions?
