Living in France, getting ready for the first day of university. Having just moved to the dorms, I had no TV in my room, so I only knew something was wrong when I was out and about and an older student asked me if I knew what was going on (I didn't). He told me "c'est la guerre" ("it's war").

I went to the lounge where there was a TV and there was live footage from New York. I remember initially thinking, "that's a weird camera angle, you can only see one of the two towers".
