If there was such a plan, it wasn't clearly stated, but my guess is that he would probably have been disposed of somehow, if only by making sure that he was part of Houdini's collateral damage.

Please look at the excerpt from Chapter 51 that tlb posted about 8 or 9 posts upthread. It states explicitly that Simöes is too valuable to simply get rid of completely.

Thanks ... though we might want to consider how many people died due to being exiled to Siberia.

Well, Zach and of course RFC are using that as a metaphor, and metaphors only stretch so far until they break.

Jack made it clear that his use of "Siberia" just meant an exile in rough conditions. But I think you make a good point about Houdini: those little labs working away for the Alignment would be good candidates for destruction to hide the research.

There weren't a lot of "little labs" destroyed in the final set of explosions set of by Albrecht D. However, one of them was an arctic research station, so that could be it.

True, but there could have been labs destroyed by Marinescu and her team before the final set of explosions set off by Albrecht.

"Siberia is a concept." - John Ringo from A Ship Named Francis in The Service of the Sword.

It's possible, but remember that Marinescu and her team was to make it look like Ballroom terror attacks - at least to the credulous. She had at least one attack that was to eliminate people they couldn't manage to get off-planet in time, but for most of them, the objective was to cover actual evacuees. It was no part of her script to destroy installations that had "interesting" information. That was Albrecht's job, and it was a much longer term and more thoroughly planned operation.

Besides, explosions that intentionally look like "ballroom terrorist" operations are intentionally crude and aboveground. There is no way that the Gamma Center explosion, for example, could have been passed off as a Ballroom terrorist operation to any competent analyst. If they were going to get rid of another installation, it would have been planned for from the beginning.

I seriously doubt that they would have created a special "Siberia" just for Simöes. It was something that already existed. Wherever it was, it was certainly protected by a suicide bomb build in when the installation was created, just like the Gamma Center.
