It's a joke. Not that real life didn't get in the way, but the TM stuff. He doesn't have to explain it more and probably won't unless you run into him in person in a relaxed setting.

Maybe this has been covered in [Spoiler]ed threads, but there seems to be an inconsistency in the astrography. In A Rising Thunder, the Manties got to Agueda thus:
[At Agueda, Magellan] was a long way from home: [445 LY] from [Manticore] through hyperspace, and [327 LY] from Beowulf. Instead he'd transited from the Manticoran Junction to Beowulf, then crossed [63 LY] to the Roulette System, then transited the Roulette–Limbo Hyper Bridge and crossed another [49 LY] to Agueda. [total distance traveled in hyperspace: 112 LY]
No mention of also seizing the Prime–Ajay wormhole, but okay.
But in Uncompromising Honor the Roulette–Limbo wormhole isn't considered by either side, and it seems that Prime is on the way to Agueda:
[Lessem] and Cruiser Squadron 912 were 387.7 light-years (and forty-five days’ hyper-travel) from the Manticore System, ...
... The Prime System, however, was also only 21.5 LY (and less than three days) from the Agueda System and the Agueda-Stine hyper-bridge. ...
CruRon 912’s job was to see to it that the Prime Terminus stayed seized, particularly since Vice Admiral Correia had taken the rest of the task force off to Agueda en route to Stine. It would be ... inconvenient if he returned to Prime and found he had to return to Manticore through hyper.
...

“You’re thinking they may have staged through Prime en route to Agueda, Ma’am?” Ramaalas said [to Adm. Isotalo].
... “And if that’s what’s happening, kicking them off the terminus and keeping them off it could play hell with their logistics. It might even force whoever they sent to Agueda to fall back on Manticore the long way.” She smiled nastily. “That’d take their entire force out of action for almost two T-months without anyone even firing a shot.”
(And 387.7 + 21.5 < 445, but that's a quibble.)

Also
against missiles coming in at eighty percent of light-speed.
missiles can't reach 0.8 of lightsp– oh, never mind.
----
Imagined conversation:
Admiral [noting yet another Manty tech surprise]:
XO, what's the budget for the ONI?
Vice Admiral: I don't recall exactly, sir. Several billion quatloos.
Admiral: ... What do you suppose they did with all that money?

There is but it's usually the day of release. Sometimes Amazon will let you pre order Ebooks but not always.

Or you can go to https://www.baen.com/w201810-october-20 ... undle.html, and decide whether any of the other books on offer are worth the extra $8 - or, of course, simply getting 1/2 the book _now_ might be worth that to you. Of course, either way you have to endure the waits between segments, which some people just can't hack. To them, Baen sells a complete pre-release version. At a much better price than they used to go for on eBay, too.

Just Finished "A Rising Thunder": Too much QQ not enough PewPew.
Now I hear Uncompromising is uncompromisingly longer, with MORE QQ and LESS PewPew. The Struggle is good, I'm addicted. How many stars will I give? Errr how many are there?

Solly Wallers are not useless. Let them mount tractors on their sides, and attach there big cargo boxes, and they'll get cargo from world A to B about as fast as any ordinary freighter.
Once at B, the jettison the tractored box, and link up the loaded boxes waiting for them to haul to C. No waiting for the boxen the waller brought being unloaded then loaded again. No dead/down time. Full Crews not needed, just Astrogation and Engineering (and a Ferenghi to make sure you get the best price without cheats.) The proceeds from this SolHaul goes to technodyne and better missiles, better sensors, better superLACs etc.

The Boxen that Wallers haul can, instead of cargo, be filled with missile pods and aiming control. The next box down houses/maintains/launches several large LACs able to position the missile pod wrapped around it and give telemetric control of the missiles. The LAC then is the first stage of the missile drive, and the Apollo after launch.

Obsolete dreadnoughts and battleships can have their grasers removed, and their position filled by an active emitters to blat out (at graswer power) whatever radar signal the passive panels should hear. This should find even the ninja Mesan.

Solly wallers are in fact useless.
Anyone proposing using an Honorverse warship as anything other than a warship seriously underestimates
- how much more expensive a warship is to operate than a merchant ship (even with RMN automation levels, leaving the Marines home, and not manning any of the weapons)
- how difficult it is to reconfigure the interior of a warship (your suggestion of towing cargo externally is not in fact practical)
- and how poorly designed warships are for cargo or passenger transportation

Since Solly wallers are pretty much useless as warships (they cannot successfully defend against modern wallers, or even modern heavy cruisers or system-defense pods, and are too slow to chase down even less modern sub-wallers), and are extremely expensive to operate so using them in extremely sub-optimal roles where they might still be marginally effective is extremely costly, they are in fact useless.

Cost is zero, they're already built. I did not propose new construction of the same old.

They're huge missile pods. Not loaded with missiles, but the same notion: Tractored/bolted inside the wedge.
drothgery wrote:- and how poorly designed warships are for cargo or passenger transportation
such was not proposed.

Agreed there.

Crewing needs: Astrogation and Engineering. No Marines, no weapons crews, no missiles, etc.
The need for cargo haul is critical to the Solly Navy.
This method would let some get hauled.

I don't recall the weight of a missile pod, nor the number a Solly Waller could haul in its wedge. If you have these numbers, lay them on me please.

I thought the flogging of this dead horse ended when it was shown in the early snippets that the RMN are puling off useful weapons, like the grasers, and then scrapping the rest of the ship.

the GA doesn't want them in any shape or form be it warships or merchies or something inbetween.
