Are we assuming those people were not "escorted" to their various rallying points by their GAUL minders?

It is certainly possible a few didn't make it or were attending to nature :o at the exact wrong moment. Does not mean, being loyal members of the Onion they will rush forward to declare themselves prisoners of war, or terrorists depending on Michelle's mood.

(1) Doesn't mean, on a planet of billions, they will be ferreted out. (2) Probably means thy were as much in the dark on where, exactly, they were going as any other character in textev did. Kind of does undercut O'Hanrahan. But at this point, with the SL government trashed and the war over what does it matter?

There aren't that many GAULs for that according to the text and the GAULs they did have were used to move really important people like McBride. Agreed, I'm not saying that they'll rush forward and provide information. But who knows what will happen. Look at McBride, he was beginning to question things himself. They may see what happened with the nuclear explosions and have a change of heart. Or under interrogation with a tree cat give up little pieces of information.

I'm interested to see what's going to happen with O'Hanrahan because she really can't interview anyone when a treecat is around. I wouldn't be surprised if the GA wanted to give her an interview with Gold Peak or Tourville so they could deny responsibility for the attack on Mesa. What happens if a treecat gets a wif of her mind glow?

Wow, a SL journalist who hates Manticorans. Imagine that. Just like every other SL journalist.

I'm more thinking she's an Alpha Line, we don't know the extent of what she knows about the Onion. But it seems to me that a treecat could sift through the hatred and sense that she's hiding something aka a member of the Alignment.

Certainly, which will make it look like the GA murdered her because she was reporting negatively about them in Mesa.

O'Hanrahan may or may not be ultimately useful to uncovering the Alignment. We shall see but she won't know where they are.

Manpower as a corporation is not going to be in the genetic slave business on Mesa. What may or may not be in existance as far as off-planet genenetic slave breeding sites is unknown. Not clear -I don't think it was- if Torch/Verdant Vista actualy was breeding slaves rather than receiving them from Mesa.
The number of Manpower employees no longer in the Mesa System don't have a headquarters and will end up doing something. Just not with the legal cover of Mesa nor that ultimate supply base for slaves.
Manpower will probably have a lot of labs and facilities left but for how much longer is a question. They MAY be able to evolve the facilities into a more purely medical supply operation. I say that because they still did a lot of genetics work and have information- medical information- and there is/was support and supply networks to provide for the artificial womb and similar types of facilities to support the development and production of the slaves but they would have to transition to something legal (in the eyes of the GA and whatever government forms from the wreckage on Mesa.
The legal concerns of what they did vs what they can now do are vast but it will end up getting settled mostly as Mesa gets sorted out.
As for that distribution network that Manpowrer fed an was also a conduit for the Alignment is going to unravel. People, without the cover of Manpower/Mesa will likely scatter like roaches when a light goes on......run like hell for cover and try to vanish.

Wow, instant adoption mode!

Not really sure that even as an alpha line O'Hanrahan really hates Manticore/Manticorans/RMN. She certainly has no problem taking on the arrogant and powerful.

She is still alive and on Mesa. THEREFORE by definition she knows nothing of the Onion, hence can reveal nothing even to a treecat.

Bold mine IIRC, originally they were bred for VV and transported there, then allowing them to breed would be cheaper but like Colonialism it may have behooved Manpower to continue shipping in labor units as needed.

I still think there will be a market for sex slaves if they can find amenable governments/systems to partner with.

Doesn't the RF's staunch anti-slavery lose its luster if there is no more genetic slavery? I mean yes it gives it cover as not Malignment, but how much weight does that carry?

O'Hanrahan would certainly be of value. I doubt she has a suicide protocol. They don't do it for that many people. And she officially has no connection with Mesa at all. She may know some useful things and there are a lot of ways to trace what she knows without even affecting her. She has bosses and they are probably connected. You know that Anton and others could probably get their hands on just about any message she has ever received or transmitted and chances are she was not all that careful over they years.

You can bet there are a lot of people around who do know where the Manpower planets are. Those people were not deep in the Onion. Victor, sitting with Thandi and JeremyX, not to mention a treecat or two could probably learn all that's needed. Manpower planets would be very vulnerable. Not all that many "scorpions" on each. But each planet would provide many more supporters for Torch.

As for the Renaissance Factor not getting much benefit from being anti-slavery after it is ended, check out the Republican Party AFTER the Civil War. They were "waving the bloody shirt" in a lot of elections. Also, by being anti-slevery it makes it very difficult to connect them to Manpower at all.
