I think, as others have suggested, that Axelrod will be shown to be part of or at least associated with the Mesan Allignment. They have the same lack of scruples, the same talent for conspiracy, the same onion structure, and especially the same obsession with wormholes.

That's my 2 c.

Llyn is only going to get two separate pieces of information, eventually.
One: That the Black Ops strike force found the Volsung base was destroyed before they got there. That they observed one ship leaving the system (not much data on that except possibly the heading when the went to hyper). That the planet now appears to be missing the little colony and any other people in-system is going to raise other questions for Llyn but he will have to try and find out if it was removed back to the home system.

Two: That somebody (not identified yet) broke into the Volsung office and stole a computer. How he is going to get that piece would be interesting. Given that nobody (that we have been told of) seems to raise a newsworth stink about that and nobody came after the Manticorians at the time would indicate that it probably kept quiet as far as an official police report. Llyn probably has contacts on the planet but that may or may not include someone in the Volsung organization. The Volsung people operating out of that office may be hunting the perps but who knows if they might suspect the Manticorians. Llyn MIGHT get a list of ships in orbit at the time which could bring him to think that Manticore was involved. Depends on what his contacts pass along for information gathered.
The Volsung people on planet will be looking to get the information about the loss of the computer to thier boss...who is now dead...but it will take some time to find out about that and it may come from the ship that escaped or general news/rumor from where the fleet was destroyed. Again, it depends on how the news travesl and if, along with the PRH being the people doing the killing or if the involvement of Manticore gets in to the reporting. Certainly the elimimination of so many Mercenary shops pretending to be Andermani is going to be big news- which will both annoy the Andermani (for someone to masquerade as them and gratify them since most of the fleet and it's people are now dead.

I don't think the Andermani are going to be letting Llyn know- they probably don't know who he is but if they get any whiff of the part about the courier bugging out they may add that to the list of things to eliminate...but who? They have a captains name if they check (or can extract) the ship's information from the system government. Perhaps not from the PRN however.

IF the name Manticore does float up to Llyn's attenion about one or both ships being in places with coincidental timing, he is going to get both annoyed and worried that the Axelrod connection may have been made.

There is going to be a good amount of time that goes by before more than the Black Ops report comes in. The more time the better as it give Manticore time to reconstitute and hopefully expand it's navy plus implemenet the improvements we see talked or though about by the characters.

This isn't a spoiler, but it is rather obvious that Axelrod has shot its bolt and that there are no further attacks on Manticore. We know that because whem the story picks up with Roger III and his initiation of a military buildup against Haven, the Axelrod attack is referred to, but seems to being a single event rather than an ongoing crisis.

What we don't know is the details of how Manticore tumbles to Axelrod's involvement nor what convinces Axelrod to pull in its horns.

This is still the Republic of Haven, and the Republic of Haven Navy, long before the Duquesne Plan, the People's Republic of Haven, the People's Navy and its seventeen intelligence/internal security organizations, and most especially, the SS.

If nothing sooner I expect that actually transiting the wormhole in 41 years and getting a direct link to Beowulf would permanently spike any chance of Axelrod pulling off a successful regime change against Manticore to steal the wormhole. The Junction's existence would be too well know, and Manticore'd have powerful friends too close at hand that wouldn't put up with that kind of raw dealing from a Transteller. (Especially in those earlier less corrupted days of the League)

But still, what Manticore may have to do to at least delay until that point, and keep Axelrod from finding better deniable puppets to crush them before then should make for some interesting books. Building up their defenses ASAP would help, but probably not enough on it's own.

Unless we take a page from HotQ and find Manticore's own Maccabeus. Llyn has pretty much at least momentarily abandoned a military assault. But there are other Axelrod operatives, and the Black Ops division.

Manticore may never learn that the Volsung mercenaries were paid for by Axelrod. They may find out when/if they pay a "courtesy" call on Barca, but probably not.

But they will know, that is canon (see "I will Build My House of Steel").

Oh, Manticore finds out its Axelrod alright. By the time of Roger's buildup it is common knowledge. What we don't know is the how and when.

My own speculation is that the discovery will be made from the files Casey brought back from the Volsung computer. But that is really still an unknown.

Given that Gensonne stated that knowledge is power and shared knowledge diminishes such power, is it likely he would have that information on what amounts to the computer in the reception office of his base?

No, certainly not. IIRC, however, when Manticore and The Andermani attacked the Volsung base, they made complete copies of the computers aboard the station. Pobably in a very heavily encrypted file.
