Cachalot according to Wikipedia is also the title of a 1980 SF novel by Alan Dean Foster which was set on an ocean planet of that name, which is apparently French for "sperm whale."

I've no idea whether or not any of that is at all relevant to Honorverse's Cachalot.

And if I understand Moby Dick, Pottsfisch is the German for sperm whale. Melville actually gives a dissertation on whales, which is part of why it's 20 or thirty chapters before the Pequod puts to sea in his novel.
