Why does Tourville have a 'cat guard and Mike doesn't ?
Or maybe Mike doesn't have one ... yet ?

Tourville is the RHN's senior field commander, and the only one other than Theisman with real large-scale fleet command experience. He's a lot more important to the RHN than Mike is to the RMN. But probably it's the latter.

She has a Maine Coon. She doesn't need a treecat.

More seriously, her security detail already includes a Marine Master Sergeant with a bonded treecat, so she doesn't need another 'cat guard.

Speaking of... Did Her Mousety ever get another bonded pair in Torch? Or has there not been enough time yet?
Sorry, memory is fuzzy and all that.

Technically Mike already has a treecat bodyguard namely Alfredo.

But my guess is she probably needs to go to Sphinx to get catted or one hasn't been sent out yet.

I was thinking more of Mike being fifth in line for the
throne.

Given how long it took for Dicey to worm his way into Mike's affections, I'd say that Mike simply isn't the 'treecat bond' type. As for being fifth in line, by the time treecat bodyguards were understood to be necessary, she already had Alfredo and his Master Sergeant on the team.

Not bonding, guarding.
I don't think Alfredo's partner in bunking with Mike.
Nor does he accompanies her to all her meetings etc.

Fifth really isn't that high up in the succession. And any of
- Elizabeth & Justin having more kids
- Michael & Judith having biological kids
- Roger & Rivka having kids
- Joanna having kids
would push her down further.
