Is there a drawing of Ginger's new command from SOV available or in the works? I've been trying to visualize if and I'm still not straight on all the details.

Nope, sorry. Even I don't have much of a vision of it. TBH, I couldn't even visualize what regular Honorverse ships looked like until I saw the Russ Isler drawings several books into the series.

For the new ships, I'll have to wait until someone else in BuNine gets me a rough sketch. From that point, I can flesh it out a bit more.

I know that sounds a bit weird from the guy who's made all these nice 3D models that everyone can look at, but the truth is, I'm not very creative. I have talent, but I'm not creative, and those are two VERY different things. I can take other people's creativity, and make it look nice, maybe even improve on it somewhat, but I couldn't come up with the original idea to begin with.

That's one reason why I haven't done anymore ships lately. I'm at a sticking point at the moment because everyone else in BuNine is busy with jobs, family, health, and other issues (not to mention, House of Lies). I have some stuff I can post, but it's not complete, and until I can get some more input from those who know how this stuff ought to/might look, I'm kinda on hold. What I DO have ready, I could go ahead and put on the ships and replace all my current renders, but then I'd just have to do it all over AGAIN when the other stuff gets completed. I'd rather do it all at once, than piecemeal and repeatedly, especially when it takes upwards of 40 minutes to render out a single image, plus the 30 minutes or so to get it ready for posting on Deviant Art.

Back when I was cranking out a new ship per week, and doing that 3-plus minute video that's on You Tube, I was unemployed (if you or anyone else saw my presentation at HonorCon 2013, I was only there because I had already bought my bus ticket before I lost my job - had I not already had it, I would not have been there). I had lots of time to work on that. Now, I work 6 days a week, 7-10 hours per day.

Sorry for the "rant". If it came across that way, it wasn't meant to. I guess I just wanted to give everyone an idea of what's going on and why I haven't done much in the last couple years. I've mentioned this before, but BuNine has a meeting coming up in a couple months, and hopefully, I can be there. At that time, I should have the opportunity to get some things straightened out and decided upon, so I can press on with my ship models. That said, I will be picking up where I left off with models of ships that have line art in HoS, and once that's done, on to the ships with line art in HoL.

Again, apologies for the long post.

Edit: I also need to mention that while I COULD make up and add in details that might look cool, we TRY to make the details MEAN something. Not to add stuff that looks cool, like the greebles on Star Wars ships that look neat but don't actually DO anything (or make no sense), but to make the ships (and their details) look plausible - you guys are a picky lot, moreso than Star Wars or Star Trek fans. Well... maybe not the latter

No worries, but if you could put that design in the "pile", to be discussed, I'd appreciate a look, especially since it is a deviation from the norm.

I can mention it, but I doubt very much that anyone's given it much thought yet. As I said, they're busy with other stuff, and we're still trying to get basic stuff designed and worked out, even on currently "finished" ships.

There's a reason I keep saying that everything is still subject to change.

In conjunction with the question of drawings, perhaps it would be fun to speculate in terms of "modules" aka, what kind of modules can we think of that might fit into the catalog of "what else can they do?" [that we didn't read about in SoV] to assist in the department of "dirty tricks, sneaky tactics, and Honor / Harkness / Bellefeulle (sp?)"- approvable, enemy-smacking mayhem?

Unless that treads to close to fanfic, of course...

A spec ops/ marine module. Life support for a large marine unit or extra personel and integrated boatbays.

Hospital module.

LAC bay modules. That's right, more LACs.

Fleet Escort module. Lots'o'PDLCs and CM launchers. (Probably not going to happen, but I had to say it for everyone who has asked for it over the years.)

Drone tender.

And of course the ones we know about.

Pod carrier

Supply module

Repair module

Workshop / fab module.

...Now that's kind-o-nasty. I've decided that the CT's ought to have KH-II integrated though there's no evidence that they do, but in some configurations I could see making a "droppable pushable" module like that where you'd push the module out ahead of the supported ships using something like a drone wedge at say 2K gee and get it just far enough of what RFC calls the "gunsmoke" of your close in missile battles to provide a rather nice shield if you got jumped by a superior size force.

Not that the SLN is going to do anything like that ASN (Anytime Soon Now), but I'm thinking of the OpForce captain reporting back to his admiral, "...this kind of sucks but they just took out xx% of our launch with some kind of (stealthy) launched defensive unit... yes, I know it was 5mm km from their ships..."
