(Sigh...) The interstellar junk collectors are at it again... I thought we buried this topic, but apparently we didn't pour enough holy water on the grave...

Silesian Dispersed yards can strip slowly the SD's, Then use some of the parts to build up an Armed Fast Freighter, on a Freighter hull. SL life support works fine, Display tech is fine, CM Tubes are just fine (may need some Manty automation tech), Grasers pulled, corridors cut up, Soft top and underbelly cut up to pull stuff out, etc...
SL based tech isn't a threat to any Manty nor GA operations and will at the same time start building up the involvement of the protectorate systems. Isolation is a sure way to breed contempt while involving a star system like was done with a more primitive Greyson is the sure way to bring them into the fold. The other reason to use Silesia is capability and potential crew numbers. Silesia has many of the building facilities that Manticore lost in Oyster Bay. Has decent crew capabilities for Armed Fast Freighters. Manticore will in time be able to provide a few crew with every thirty four crew on ship coming from a different Silesian system, creating camaraderie. 100 crew can be three from each system with Manticore being one of those systems, eventually and early on being 32 or less per ship and two best from each system. Eventually Manticore and even Talbot Clusters will be providing one or two crew per ship. With 500+ ships we would be looking at 1,000 to 1,500 crew members from the Home system. We could even build a main School on Silesia similar to Saganami island, named after some famous Silesian Merchant Captain. There are likely similar Groupings in the Peeps Navy. One would think that the GA might develope a crew mix and share amoung the GA membership. As for any Manty scared of the Silesian Boogey crew these concerns sound like the ravings of Frontier Fleet. You are not Frontier Fleet are you? ________________________________________

As for just dropping them in a sun or shooting them up, sure if you could build even a Graser but you can't every yard is gone, you need every part you can get and you need to involve Silesia. Seems there is a strange bigotry against Silesia and an even stranger need to love the enemy who has killed more members of the Royal Family than every Silesian combined. You make terrible Royalists.

How can they do that when there are no SLN SDs in the Silesian Protectorates? There are captured ships in Manticore A and Spindle systems, but nowhere else I know of. (The ships in New Tuscany are lobotomized and not in GA control.) Past discussions suggest it would take about 70,000 spacers just to ferry the ships in Spindle to some other system. .

Since "Silesia" is "the Silesian Protectorates" and not actual Star Empire members, there should be a bias against them -- at least as compared to actual Star Kingdom members like Trevor's Star, Basalisk, Lynx or the Talbott Quadrant. .

there is one big problem with your proposal INTERNAL ARMOR! SD's are build with armor not just on the outside like a DD or CL, they ALSO have armor around the core hull PLUS they have armor many other places. It would take years to cut out all the internal armor of a SD in order to make room for cargo holds. (remember Nike is SVW? SD armor is much thicker) THE SHORT ANSWER IS: it will be cheaper for anyone to build two fast freighters than to convert a SD into a faxt freighter. A breaker can most likely get items like the impeller nodes, hyper generator and fusion plants out intact or in a state that can be re-assembled in a new ship; the hulls themselves are scrap [if it was me, there'd be a lot of shaped charges involved]. Electronics, of course, are relatively easy to pull, and a good chunk of them relatively simple to repurpose, as is personnel support and environmental equipment - although it might be surprising how much of that category falls under the 'electronics' heading anyway. _If_ it seems worthwhile to set up spare parts lines for any these items, they can be salvaged and reused. But that seems to be the hardest thing to get through peoples' heads here: there is absolutely no point putting something into service if you can't fix it when it breaks. And break it will.
So it all comes down to a matter of parts.

OK how about this for an off the wall idea.
Remove all the missiles and their associated controls, likewise the grazers if possible or if that is too big a job just remove their associated controls, leave the PDLCs to use for defensive purposes and then give the ships to whoever wants them for colony ships. On each ship there is room for 6,000 people, and life support is already catered for, the former missile storage could be used for storing all the additional things that would be required for a colony. A squadron of the ships would carry up to 48,000 people which might be a reasonable number to form a colony with enough diversification to avoid in-breeding, also many thousands of embryos could be included in cryogenic suspension which would further ensure diversification. The wormholes could be used to get the ships to the outer edges of explored/known space and then the ships could hyper out on their way to who knows where. Of course not having a hyper log for the intended journeys would be risky but I'm sure some people would jump at the chance to get away from the pending conflicts the break-up of the SL is going to spawn. Then at last the ships would be gone and this thread could be closed once and for all .
