For me it is "From the Highlands" followed by "Fanatic" (especially the Audiobook version since LJ Ganser does an amazing job) - Although "Lets go to Prague" is good for few laughs too.

you have to love "lets go to Prague", lots of OTT coupled with just enough ring of could be that you can't help smiling.

There's so many choices, it's hard to pick one. Overall I think my favorite is "The Stray". Second choice would be "From the Highlands".

"The Service of the Sword", hands down. Love it. I also really love "What Price Dreams?" and "Obligated Service".

Least favorite is "The Stray", because it reduced me to a bawling wreck in the space of two pages.

"A Ship Named Francis".
Followed closely by "Beauty and the Beast".

My personal favorites were Promise Land and Ruthless, with The Stray and What Price Dreams a close second followed by From the Highlands and Fanatic. I also wish RFC would write a follow-up to Promise Land and Ruthless. My least favorite are Deckload Strike and A Grand Tour.

Those stories were written by Jane Lindskold, IIRC, not that I would mind seeing a third one either.

My least favorite are Deckload Strike and A Grand Tour.

In that we are in agreement. I thought most of the stories in the latest collection "Beginnings" weren't the strongest ones either, except for the one with Allison and Alfred.

My favorite? From the Highlands.

Absolute favorite is A Ship Named Francis, just due to the humor in it. On the other hand, I don't know if I consider it canon. My favorite definitely canon story is A Whif of Grapeshot.

Least favorite by a country mile is A Grand Tour. I don't consider it canon, (and won't until somebody in the actual books mentions anything in the story,) and it is basically used to build the foundation of the author's RCN series. My least favorite canon story in By The Book. It was just OK at the start, but the "you can save the human race because you are American," thing was just a bit ugly there at the end.
