My first consideration would be regarding the escort riding herd on my convoy. And will there be any naked legs? If I'm escorted by Henke per freaky chance, or Harrington per freakier chance or any number of other qualified applicants, then on to the next stage. I do not want to leave the Sol system and end up experiencing piracy first hand.

Now for the laws of Sol. If I am worth a billion dollars of assets, how much can I transfer to another system? Will Old Earth demand 20 % or more? These aren't critical times instigated by a horrific final war and leaving Earth will not be tax-free. Old Earth cannot afford for its richest citizens, or any of its citizens, to leave with all of their assests. Am I mistaken?

What's a billion dollars worth on Manticore? What are the property values? Can I afford a sprawling estate comparable to what I have, or will I be relegated to a claustrophobic beehive? Will I need the services of a Willard Neufsteiler to handle it all and to deal with the IRS? (Intergalactic Revenue Service)

If I have children in school, how will their current education compare to where we're going? Will they be set back a few grades? Will they be dummies? Will my skill set transfer? Will my luggage end up on Hades? Can I keep my old phone number?

One huge problem of relocating even someplace else on planet is when the weather of the destination is overlooked or underestimated. Or when the local wildlife is overlooked, underestimated and disrespected. On Sphinx, I recall Honor saying that many a tourist was lost to an occasional Hex - to a Hexapuma casting a hex. I'm betting they were all Solarians walking around asking "dude, where's my aircar?" Speaking of which, is my aircar driver's license transferrable? On Sol there may not be cloverleaf loop-the-loop airturns. Or super counter-grav cities requiring a Class-E license. How long before all licensed driver's can be brought up to speed? And what are the citizenship laws, immigration, of other planets?

If I missed something it's because ny travel agent hasn't gotten back to me. Communication with my destination entities are time consuming.

For people on Social Security or some government stipend, they would probably lose it leaving Old Earth. My exotic fish collection will not make that long trip. Unless...

Some medical insurances aren't easily transferrable from state to state. Let alone country to country and star system to star system. Etc... ... ...

One thing about red-tape - it's hyper-capable too.

Excellent post and thank you. I think (not sure) the good old USA already has a new nasty 30% seize tax on all assets leaving our borders? Knowing the lay of the land would be vital.

Do not jump from a frying pan into another as hot or hotter fire. The Sollies jumping ship would to need to understand lots of stuff before leaving Earth. Not cheap. Very difficult.

How would they transfer their assets? Could they? Procedures and methods? My German family in 1870 used diamonds, rubies and gold. I for one would be very nervous leaving Dodge City. HB

The laws for Swiss Bank accounts for US citizens have changed tremendously.
