I have to disagree with that. The vast majority of Solies have probably never heard of Hanrahan. They listen to the big media if any and never heard of something else. There is a small minority of news junkies who swear by Hanrahan. Think of something similar to Dan Carlin today.

IIRC, there is textev that she is the most followed and trusted news commentator in the SL - Think Walter Cronkite in his day in the US.

From HH12 - MoH (Loc 2889f in my ebook)

Okay, but Pubin will then pick it up, and they are among the limited audience who does follow her.

Okay but why would you damage her reputation peddling nutty conspiracy theories. When they used her to plant the faked New Tuscany sensor data, they went to some effort to make it a "honest mistake". It is not like the ministry of Education and Information does not manage to inflame the general public, without MA help. Also there are other ways to plant that stuff. Just post it on some Solarian conspiracy nut forum.

Because you are getting into the end game (at least so Albrecht Detweiler thinks), and the GA is too strong - you need to stiffen the SL resistance so as to create more confusion so the RF can arise from the ashes.

This isn't end-game. Even Detweiler thinks end-game is decades away. This is a critical moment, but it is not end-game. They still need Hanrahan where she is.

Another thing to consider is that most Sollies that have even heard of treecats wouldn't know just how smart they are and would dismiss any reports that the Manties are working on giving them equal status in their society.

Even the MA may not know their full capabilities. All they wanted to find out is how their telepathy/empathy worked and if they could duplicate it in humans.

---------------

The Detweillers likely DO know their capabilities, especially after the 'cats came out in the open. The Detweillers have been trying (and apparently succeeded a couple of times) to capture Treecats since Stephanie Harrington's day.
Whether the rest of the MA knows of their capabilities is a moot point WRT to the MA.
Whether O'Hanrahan knows will be pertinent if she has an interview with Michelle Henke.

Our favorite SL news gatherer has enough journalistic integrity that she'd likely want to actually "meet" a treecat if even just to say she's being fair about her conclusions.

I'm not sure that the MAlign wants any 'cat peering inside* the heads of their better assets, even those outside the Onion but with really good connections and a Mesan knowledge base that there's other stuff going on.

[yes, I know... treecats don't actually peek inside at a mind reading level, but they can pass on a whole lot of insight by how a person reacts, etc.]

The question is how much she knows about treecats. I do not see why she should know more about treecats, than the average Solarian. I would not give detailed briefings to my field agents about stuff that does not affect their operations. I can imaging her asking for and getting an interview with Admiral Gold Peak to talk about the occupation of Mesa. Who knows maybe the alignment comes up. You know in passing.

---------------

One of the other threads had a long discussion on whether O'Hanrahan would want an interview with Michelle Henke.
O'Hanrahan has the seniority and visibility to want Henke, Oversteegan or Terrekov as the senior officers for spokes-persons.
Whether O'Hanrahan accepts / declines (due to unfortunate schedule conflicts) an interview with Henke AFTER she learns of the Treecat presence will tell much.
If O'Hanrahan obtains an interview with Henke and discovers the 'cat ONLY after arrival will also tell much.
