You do know (I suspect you do) that there is a song/poem with that title (based on Kipling's Danny Deever).

http://www.songworm.com/lyrics/songworm ... omArg.html

For others here, the original Banned from Argo song was so popular (especially with newbies and first-time SF convention-goers) that the filk-singers quickly got tired of it, to the point of almost dreading the inevitable request for it....hence SWM's reaction...

Still trying to come up with a good verse for Lester Tourville, that somehow involves a Cigar...

 Yeah, I do know the song "They're singing Banned From Argo", and deliberately used phrase. Good catch!

To expand on it, it got to the point that Leslie Fish herself got so tired of the song that she refuses to sing it more than once a year. :D

Of course, the reason is that it's such a fun song! (the first dozen times. )

Banned from Landing

When we pulled into a high orbit, above ol' Manticore,
our crew boarded our pinnaces to see what was in store,
our expectations of the GA were high to say the least
but soon we left the system, pursued by their home fleet!

and we're banned from Landing, everyone!
Banned from Landing just for havin' a little fun!
we spent a jolly shore-leave there, for just three days or four,
but Queen Liz banned our ship from Manticore!

The Admiral of our mighty ship she needed R and R,
she met with Admiral Hemphill to ask a question (more like four)
Sonja brought up some new tech and our lady's eyes drooped,
and when their "toys" blew up the place, all she could say was "oops!!"

And we're banned from Landing, everyone!
Banned from Landing just for havin' a little fun!
we spent a jolly shore-leave there, for just three days or four,
but Queen Liz banned our ship from Manticore!

One of our crew met a Treecat, and they bonded instantly,
He boarded a Manty SD(P), in search of celery,
but when the Marine entered the stores, the sign it said "off limits"
and when our lad took some away, he met Honor and Nimitz!

*claws and screaming*

And we're banned from Landing, everyone!
Banned from Landing just for havin' a little fun!
we spent a jolly shore-leave there, for just three days or four,
but Queen Liz banned our ship from Manticore!

Tom Theisman bet with Honor he could tear her ship apart,
they set the simulation up, but before the fight could start,
Old Admiral White Haven came in, with pulser and with strife,
and told our Tom it wasn't right for him to beat his wife!

And we're banned from Landing, everyone!
Banned from Landing just for havin' a little fun!
we spent a jolly shore-leave there, for just three days or four,
but Queen Liz banned our ship from Manticore!

A Mesan ship attacked our fleet, nobody seemed to care,
they launched all their missiles, just to say that they were there
Eloise, Estelle and Elizabeth, they had a lot to say,
and the Mesans powered up their drives, and quickly sailed away.

But we're banned from Landing, everyone!
Banned from Landing just for havin' a little fun!
we spent a jolly shore-leave there, for just three days or four,
but Queen Liz banned our ship from Manticore!

Our crew is Haven's finest, the first and thus the best,
we sail for honored victory, but we often like to jest,
and when the Sollies come fight us, they'll very quickly find,
that Haven and old Manticore will thrash their royal behinds!

...But 'til then...

We're banned from Landing, everyone!
Banned from Landing just for havin' a little fun!
we spent a jolly shore-leave there, for just three days or four,
but Queen Liz banned our ship from Manticore!

You realize that all of you are stark raving mad. Really. Bonkers.

But as Oliver Twist would have put it: Please, Sir, may I have some more?

OK, I just created one more verse for my version, but except for Gofy no one else has been able to find four words that rhyme, it seems.....

Give it a try, folks.

The Yildun Yards were the Sollies pride and joy for all their best;
Until a Fleet came calling and made it quite a mess.
No one knew where they came from as they travelled thru the stars,
The only clues twere' left behind was a tree branch and cigar.

It took me this long to figure out that I'm the only sane person around...

And that you actually believe that is a symptom of your madness..... 8-)

Me, I've tried to live by the motto "Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional." Seems to be working so far....

A few more verses for mine:

Our vessel's Petty Officer, he was a sight to see,
one of the finest to serve in the Republican Navy,
but when he boasted of his might, The Manties weren't impressed,
and our PO was introduced to their good chief Harkness!!

A supporter of the PRH met a pretty Sphinxian,
(he should have heard the briefing about Honor Harrington)
for Honor smashed his toes with pulsers, as they met out in the street,
and the former StateSec goony now faces the "agony in de-feet!"

The refusal to grow up is symptomatic of the state of being a male. Only women and conservatives would do such a reprehensible thing...

As for my sanity, it is self-evident and supported by the indisputable fact that you're all mad. There, isn't that a brilliant piece of circular logic?
