Must have made for some interesting radar returns...

Nah, most radar sets can't see anything that close.[/quote]

Nope no returns, but they did say that one newbie wrapped his spud in foil and tried to bake it. IIRC they said it looked like a 747 hovering about half a mile off the ship.

I probably should be used to it by now.

Due to a certain lack of new books the fans have to much time for the forum :D

Quite so, and since the principal question under consideration on the thread (How much technology was stolen?) seems to have come to a general consensus of "None", the floor is now open for further explorations....

...And I wonder what a potato put in front of an Honorverse-level radar would look like.....

A 10Mw directional microwave beam (read that as a surface search radar) will cook a 2lb bird (read that as seagull) that flies through it to the point that it could be served as dinner. Of course, that only happens within a few yards of the antenna, but picking up the dead birds after a system test was a pain.

I heard about that happening with PAVE PAWS on Cape Cod after I moved to Massachusetts. Apparently phased array search radars that look for incoming ICBMs can cook birds with ease.

Given a radar capable of getting a return off a ship a million kilometers away...

I'm guessing said potato doesn't look like much of anything. Maybe fine ash.
