Paulo d'Arezzo might provide an example of what you suggest, but his angst seemed pretty clearly spelled out as being something different. Unless you want to reinterpret it ... ?

Sure, we don't see much at odds with Ginny's personality, and I'm sure it would be a personal thing with Ginny and that she wouldn't want us to see the maelstrom churning in her head and her... ... ...heart of the matter.

Could it be that sex slaves are the most dangerous to own, because they are so sexually frustrated!?!

Know the Terran phrase for men, 'get excited if the wind blows?' Well suddenly you can't go near a fan! One of my favorite Terran songs by The Police, Don't Stand So Close To Me, would be because I can feel the wind from your breath on my neck. And you really don't want to be around me if you breathe on my neck.

I don't mean it being switchable at will, but that an increased libido doesn't mean they are perpetually aroused. Also while Manpower certainly has no scruples at driving slaves insane, it would be a bad idea. An insane sex slave is a ticking time bomb, which would be bad for Manpowers profit margin.

I think you're on to something. An ideal sex slave ought to be able to do it multiple times a day when required, but shouldn't be bothered at other times. The reason sex slaves are dangerous is something the BDSM community has known for a long time: 90% of sex is in the head, not in the gonads.

Since this isn't a spoiler thread, I'm just going to point to something from CoG that's going to take one of our background assumptions and apply a torque wrench. It's in Chapter 26.2, and it's real easy to miss. Not more than four or five words, really.

Maybe the freed ones are able to dampen it chemically? Viagra was patented in 1998, I'd figure by the year 4000 the pharmaceutical industry would have developed an effective commercial anti-Viagra, some form of milder and temporary chemical castration.

The slaves, obviously, wouldn't get this - or possibly it could be a sort of twisted carrot-stick system, performing their function is 'rewarded' with the drugs they need to dampen their naturally crazed libido for a time.

Viagra doesn't increase desire, it increases the ability to act on desire.

So maybe anti-Viagra wasn't the right term, but the point is the same. We have (crude) chemical means of dampening/eliminating desire now, I'd expect two thousand years of progress to find a way of streamlining that into a marketable drug - engineered slaves wouldn't be the only people suffering from hypersexuality.

Maybe they just managed to make a more constant and powerful form of libido for everyone ,as compared to the average teenage male. An attempt to get the slaves not thinking about much else apart from the sex, but it hasnt quite got there mentally, only physically (for what they were aiming at). So the desired endpoint was having every slave thinking and reacting like a teenage male pumped with viagra and testosterone in a strip club.

Please note that increased libido does not mean perpetual arousal. Libido is a desire for sex, not necessarily the ability to perform sex that instant.

Nice try, but I'm not buying it.
Sounds more than a little hinky to me.
It goes hand in hand. (npi)

If that desire is cranked up past a certain point, then it's going to begin to affect arousal. Hand in hand again. Unless of course there's a problem achieving arousal, which isn't the case with sex slaves.

And we must differentiate desire. There's the natural desire, the physical desire, where the body is just ready and your thoughts were anywhere but. All men experience that. What?!? I gotta hide this.

Then there is the emotional desire. I just saw Jessica Biel nude under a waterfall in Stealth, now my mind has taken over.

But in the end. Hand in hand. IMHO.

No it doesn't. Viagra affects arousal. Libido affects the desire. One can be aroused with low libido. One with high libido can have difficulty getting aroused. They are not equivalent.

One usually leads to the other (in either direction) in the right circumstances. But if circumstances are not right, or other things interfere, or there are physical or mental issues, arousal does not automatically lead to desire for sex and desire for sex does not automatically lead to arousal.
