Honor: "Who am I" from Les Miserables

"Who am I?
Am I a Grayson or a Sphinxian,
An Officer of the Queen or Civilian.
Is my home in my Steading or, an SD over Manticore, who am I?
How can I face those whom I've led to death, can I live with all the pain within myself?
I fight for Kingdom and for Queen, but inside me is pain unseen, Who am I?
Who am I? HONOR HARRINGTON!!"

I'll jump on the Les Mis bandwagon!

Tom Theisman: "Do You Hear the People Sing?"

"Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?
Will you be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right
To be free!

Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may fly free
Some will fall and some will live -
Will you fight for the nation we see?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water Nouveau Paris!

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!"

Everybody Wants to be a Cat

Everybody wants to be a cat,
because a cat's the only cat
who knows where it's at.
Everybody's pickin' up on that feline beat,
'cause everything else is obsolete.
Now a square with a horn,
can make you wish you weren't born,
ever'time he plays;
and with a square in the act,
he can set music back
to the caveman days.
I've heard some corny birds who tried to sing,
but a cat's the only cat
who knows how to swing.
Who wants to dig
a long-haired gig
or stuff like that?
When everybody wants to be a cat.
A square with that horn,
makes you wish you weren't born,
ever'time he plays;
and with a square in the act,
he's gonna set this music back
to the Stone Age days.
Everybody wants to be a cat,
because a cat's the only cat
who knows where it's at;
while playin' jazz you always has a Welcome mat,
'cause everybody digs a swingin' cat.
Everybody digs a swingin' cat.
Everybody, Everybody, Everybody whats to be a cat!

It seems the Honorverse has many a poet laureate and the slightest spark ignites explosive creative juices. Very nice Rose! Very very nice!! I wonder why this doesn't surprise me? (cthia teases with humorous treecat ferocity)

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Seems to me that a version "Do You Hear the People Sing?"
should be the Kingdom of Torch national anthem.

One Day More (Pre-In Enemy Hands, since Honor's capture= the fall of the barricade)This follows an HH book version of Les Mis, featuring both Manticorans and Peeps in the roles.

Honor: One day more!
Another mission and a the past haunts me,
these endless ashes of my victories.
These men who seem to know my crime will surely come a second time, one day more!

Harkness: I did not live until today, how can I live when we are parted?

Honor: One day more!

Babcock/Harkness: Tomorrow you'll be worlds away,
but yet with you my world has started.

Elizabeth: One more day of bloody war
(B/H:will we ever meet again?)
One more day of Peep aggression
(I was born to be with you!)
We must end their advance here
(and I swear I will be true!)
We can't trust them or we'll fail!

McKeon: One more day before the storm!
(Harkness:Do I follow where she goes)
At the battle-walls of freedom!
(do I join my brothers there?)
When our fleets begin to form!
(do I stay or do I dare?)
Will you take your place with me?
(Manticorans: The time is now, we stop them here!)

Honor: One day more!

Ransom: one more day till I take Honor,
I'll nip her fleet in the bud,
I'll be ready for this Manty
Nouveau Paris will have blood!

Honor: One day more!

High Ridge's supporters: Watch 'er run amuck, catch 'er as she falls,
this so called 'Salamander' isn't much at all
here a little dip, there a little touch,
her career's a goner, and we won't miss much!

Honor: One day more!

Ransom (others repeat their lines): I will find this Manty hero,
I will follow where she goes,
I will learn her Treecat's secrets,
I will know the things she knows!

one more day till I take Honor,
I'll nip her fleet in the bud,
I'll be ready for this Manty

All: tomorrow will be far away, tomorrow is the judgment day, tomorrow we'll discover what our God in Heaven (Graysons in the chorus use "almighty Tester")has in store...

One more dawn...

One more day...

One day more!!!

*standing ovation*

Literally my only quibble is equating Cordelia (*snarl*) with Javert (my poor misunderstood baby!) - but hey, if the lyrics fit!

...I think we might need to start a thread in which the two of us rewrite every Les Mis number for the Honorverse... "Empty Seats on Empty Bridges"? "Gold and Black"? A triumphant reprise of "I Dreamed a Dream" in which Elizabeth and Eloise duet over the awesomeness of the Grand Alliance? Thomas Theisman singing "What Have I Done?" after Ransom arrests Honor? "Drink With Me" before the mass breakout from Hades? Pierre, Saint-Just, and Ransom capering about to "Master of the House"? "In My Life"/"A Heart Full of Love" for Eloise and Javier?

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE KILLING ME.

Rose and Gofy can have their fun. Dreamrider, you and I have to come to some sort of agreement. I see this song as Haven's national anthem. It is the song sung under the breath of Eloise, during the diplomatic correspondence snafu, and during the loneliness she felt when Giscard was away and what kept her going when he was killed. It was the music which soothed Yu's savage beast. Allowed Mcqueen to maintain her composure. Hearing the people sing is also what kept Shannon Foraker from self-destructing during that whole "Citizen Crap" ordeal. When Shannon could no longer hear the people sing because the song was interrupted in her head by State Sec. State Sec was self-destructed!
