The bridge suddenly peels apart with a huff of air rushing in, to reveal it is a merely simulator in a vast expansive room - a room full of other Holo simulators and systems recording and monitoring the various sims.

The only record of a treecat in captivity was supplied by the MALign, which died in captivity before yielding any fruit.
That is what everyone has been led to think. The MALign was actually responsible for several successful and important experiments, but they were only wholly successful with treecats. The MALign are able to fully gain control of a treecat's mind. Total brain control, but it didn't quite translate over to humans. Limited compulsion only possible in humans. In other words, treecats have been part of the MALign's ultimate plans for a very long time. Don't ask me to explain why treecats are offering themselves for detection. The MALign are a superior complex intelligence. Misdirection of some sort maybe. One thing for certain, if treecats are to be found working for the MALign, and their empathic secret has also been uncovered ... Well, Honor would be at a disadvantage in battles, if she were broadcasting her every tactic to the enemy thru Nimitz. Son, your mother says I have to hang you.
