Of course, one could argue that since not only did they try her they also carried out the sentence (must be true, the footage got a lot of air time!), that Honor has "paid her debt to society"?

Formalities aside...

Warner is a Greyson citizen by now, and likely a subject of one "Steadholder, The Dutchess, Adm. Honor Harrington, RMN, GSN, Commanding Officer Protector's Own, Commanding Officer 'shitload of RMN ships in one fleet or another', badass duelist, wife to The Earl of White Haven, Adm. Hamish Alexander-Harrington, RMN, 1st Lord of the Admiralty."

I imagine if Warner gets into any trouble someone's gonna make a call...

And then...

Well.

I duno who's going to get the call, or who would respond to it...but I'm going to guess it would be...

Interesting.

As in "Madam President, the Manticorian Ambasador is waiting to see you. She says it urgent and requires a moment of your attention...and the Greyson Consul General is on line 3. He's not being so polite..."

I'm sure "In Re: The People of the Republic of Haven v. Harrington, Honor S." matter is something the new republic would like to just declare closed, and not to be addressed further.

Ever. By anyone.

I'm pretty sure that bringing it up is not a career enhancing move...unless you are an archivist wiritng a book entitled "Lies, Untruths & Public Information: Bassilisk Station to Hades, the Story of Honor Harrington (With Preface by Mr. Harkens!)

I'd like to see Warner and Alfredo go to their previous home planets and take the remainder of their extended families back to Grayson.

Evewn with a presidential Pardon promise of Immunity etc etc he will never be trusted in any position of authority in the Republic, the best he could hope for is to retire and write his memoirs.

However as a senior officer is the Protectors Own he has honour, prestige and what I thing would be most inportant to someone like Warner a useful role, where he can make a difference

Warner was never charged by either the PRH or the RH; nonetheless a general pardon would probably be best (and a combined Grayson/Havenite escort) if either Warner or Alfredo Yu ever went back for a visit.

It'd be something simply to be able to mail friends and family without having censors go over it or the federal law enforcement bodies eyeball them for "consorting with traitors".

Chances are, permanent return would be personally uncomfortable, feel too much like abandoning Grayson, and create a loaded political issue in Haven. It's not something someone who cares much about either of their countries would care to shoulder.

Well said, Jeff. I wonder if much of the early lower rank/post-Parnell officer core came off Dolist lists to an almost have-to-be-a bachelor/bachelorette existince.

In any case, it seems likely that post-Legislaturalist, the Havenite Navy is littered with officers and crew who were literally orphaned by the PN purges, because their ships did not do well (scapegoating) or have no family ties remaining that they know about. We don't hear about any of the current RH leadership having ANY surviving family, for example.

I can picture pardons being delivered by Theisman from Pritchart first, "dual commissions" second, with the knowledge that Yu and Caslet won't be coming home, permanently, and finally an "expedition" or set of trips to bring those any family members that were found by Kevin Usher, etc. as a special courtesy to visit our favorite ex-pats in Yeltsin space. Visiting RH space would be in their Grayson ships as special guests.
