So, after the last wave of nuclear blasts on Mesa, while the GA fleet was in orbit, Audrey Ohanrahan did a report where she didn't come out and directly accuse the GA (Manticore for all intents and purposes) but the implication was there. There were also all the other stories propagated by McArtney and his propagandists about ambushing Filareta, Green Pines etc (among other things) and, leave us not forget, destroying all of Sol's infrastructure.

Prior to all of that Manticore had a pretty good reputation (for neobarbs) It's also usually true that the average person on the street is fairly credulous. Where then, does that leave Manticore going forward?

I can see that some (if not all) (other than the infrastructure strike) can pretty conclusively be proven false, but how much good will that do to the people who are already believing the worst?

There are also going to be some people who will be able to look at the facts and judge them on their merits, and perhaps believe that the Manties may not be the evil no goodniks that they are being portrayed as. But will they be enough to sway the average man on the street.

So what can the Manticorans do? Will it be enogh for them to tell their side of the story, show people their proof and hope for the best? Or will they have to wait it out?

Will some of their good works (the battle of Hyapatia for instance) be any help to them? And if none of that works, will it be enogh to hurt them with the League? Obviously the credulous will believe anything, but how much will those people effect matters in the grand scheme of things?

I don't know that this thread is going to go anywhere, but if anybody has any thoughts please share them.

Well, you said the other day you were rereading the series but it wasn't clear whether you have already read TEIF. If you haven't read it yet, it has significant consequences for Manticore's reputation.

And if you haven't yet, it will be no surprise to know that Manticore did put a PR effort to make sure that the Mesa Atrocity was not blamed on them, but on the Alignment.
