So what's the predominant 'colour' in the RMN? We know that Grayson was largely settled by mid-west Americans so the assumption has to be that most of them were 'white' with a few others. Manticorans seem more varied, from 'pure white' to 'pure black' plus everything in between. So does it really matter, apart from defined lead characters whose appearance has been described, what colours are in the cast?

ATM, we're seeing some pretty big Hollywood movies going out of their way to include or even add content to appeal to movie-goers in China/Asia (and their wallets).
So leaving her ethnic background intact for the movies might just be a good idea, provided you can find a good actress that looks the part.
It's a somewhat crass argument, true, but that doesn't mean it's a bad one.
Partially, from an artistic standpoint. You don't want anything too distracting on screen, so having a hodgepodge of skin tones and flavors isn't a great idea. However, it's decently easy to get around.
The easiest way to actually get around this is ala Battlestar: Dark lighting, limit the characters on screen. Almost anyone on screen actually had a good reason to be there, there wasn't too many extras doing random busywork. One thing I hated about Star Trek (TNG was especially bad about this) is there was always some random guy in the back that apparently really had to do that astrological survey during the pitched battle with the Klingons or Romulans or the Borg. There was always people just walking around with no real reason for being there.
