Actually, this post reminded me of a story by (I think) Christopher Anvil, in which the hereditary title decayed with the generations. Thus the son of a duke became a Marquis, the son of a Marquis became an Earl, the son of an Earl became a Viscount, the son of a viscount became a baron, an the son of a baron became a commoner. Rank was acquired by performing service to the nation in some form (in the story I think it was bringing new inventions to market). Dimitri and Pavel Young are the best examples I have seen for implementing this in the SEM. ========================

Was it he or his brother who was reminiscing fondly about his father's driver? Yeah, they were quite a little band of brothers. |

I really enjoyed the POV of Michelle regarding Honor's naivety in all things non-naval, like, makeup. More of that would have been nice.
A little of the same POV regarding Abigail would be nice as well. Which means that Abby would have to meet her own version of Michelle. Although there's no chance of an opposite-sex-handicapped Grayson girl - Manticoran men might prove to be, just a little bit ... foreign. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

Well, Abby's can count on Helen as a buddy (not that Helen is the model of decorum, but she did have Cathy Montague as a role model for several years) and then she seems to have a good relationship with Helen Boglitz from Dresden (and through her, 'Gwen' Archer). Or maybe Abby just likes people named Helen.... ![]() ![]() Last edited by Hutch on Wed Dec 10, 2014 9:08 am, edited 1 time in total.

Abby sort of took the role of Michelle when Helen came to her for relationship advice. Abby in command with Ensign (now Lt) Claire Bedlam Lecroix (from Obligated Service in Beginnings) as Engineering Officer aboard a Grayson CL or CA would be more interesting. .

I was just re-reading the snippets for "A Rising Thunder' on Eric Flint's site (which is fun to do because he allows comments after each snippet and seeing what people thought after their very first read was enlightening and enjoyable (YMMV).
Anyway, it made me think about the POV of two people; the Commander of the Wormhole traffic station at Trevor's Star ("You want me to organize a transit for 250 WHAT!?! From WHERE?!?) and the thoughts of the first RH SD Captain emerging from the Manticore wormhole, with all the forts and LAC's on station and watching him ("...ummm..Hi? And please don't kill me.") Definitely some puckering moments for both... ***********************************************

I'd like the more personal and intimate POV of all of Benjy's wives, alone together, frankly discussing Honor Harrington after that first dinner.
I know how women gossip, and the things a woman says is shocking sometimes. They're like ... women! (Ducks never ending supply of UFOs.) Hey! I've got five sisters! I'd like the raw, intimate, unabridged POV of a few key officers (Hamish for sure) and Elizabeth after Janacek shot himself.
Also, he shot himself after the extent of his failures was revealed, and despite speculation that his death was very "convenient", the Landing City Police later confirmed his death as a suicide. (HH10) These type professionals have been wrong before. The verdict concerning Lt. Meares comes to mind. Which leads me into this, "are we certain the MALign isn't somehow responsible? Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father.
