The Mesan Alignment: a centuries-old cabal that seeks to impose its vision of a society dominated by genetic rank onto the human race.

Genetic rank. Why does that taste so sour?
What I'd like to see...is freed Mesan Slaves retrained, joined the GA Navy and out for blood themselves! Against the MA!!

Yes, that would be interesting. Of course, I suspect that the Mesan Alignment may be not survive long enough for the Mesan recruits to get through RMN training.

Cauldron of Ghosts
“I don’t know,” said Cachat, almost muttering the words. “I’ve been trying to get an answer to that very question from”—his finger pointed to the ceiling—“unnamable but no doubt exalted figures on high.”

Taken literally, the gesture might have led to the conclusion that the hard-bitten atheist Victor Cachat had suddenly become a believer, since there was nothing beyond the ceiling other than the heavens.

It never crossed my mind, other than what was given in text, the religious affiliations or not of the characters. Can anyone remember what Honor's religion is? Elizabeth's?

An aside:
I wonder what Austin Grayson taught in The Book of the New Way in The "Church of Humanity Unchained" about Thou shalt not kill.

Didn't Abigail quote something dealing with that?

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Honor is Third Stellar, which seems to be some offshoot of Protestantism that pretty much lacks any central authority. Elizabeth is Second Reformation Catholic, which is an evolved form of the Roman Catholic Church as we know it today.

I'm not sure if this is what you're thinking of, but this quote comes from (I believe) SftS after the New Tuscany Incident:

Mother Church says vengeance is the Tester's, she reminded herself, and I believe that. But I also believe He can use anyone He wants as the instrument of His vengeance. And right this minute, I'm not feeling very forgiving.

Thanks rose. And yes, that's the quote I was looking for. You tac-witches have spoiled me. If you ever leave the forums, I'll sue for abandonment. Gotten used to a certain forum-lifestyle, having me very own tac-witches you see. :D

Edit:
I wonder how Elizabeth's Catholic faith and The New Way really handle their differences.

on the massacre of Tristram's division mates.

“Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay, a voice said quietly in the back of her mind. In time their foot will slip, for their day of disaster is near and their doom is coming quickly.
Abigail Hearns had always preferred the love and gentleness of the New Testament, but this was an Old Testament moment, and her eyes were intent and her hands steady on her tactical console.
“Stand by to engage,” Naomi Kaplan replied.”

Ah, forgot about that one. Abigail seemed to quote passages just before killing often, didn't she? I think I even remember something funny she quoted, I think it her, about killing 'then letting The Tester sort it out.'

That's probably a takeoff of a (potentially apocryphal) quote that dates from the Albigensian Crusade against the Cathars of the Languedoc in France. The Catholic Church embarked on a crusade to wipe out what they saw as heresy. In the town of Beziers, every human being from old men to infants was put to the sword. When someone asked how he could tell Cathar from non-Cathar, the commander replied, "Kill them all. God will know his own," often paraphrased as "Kill them all and let God sort it out."

Given the circumstances she was facing, however, I can't really blame Abby for that one.

I had one that I posted before (about 50 pages ago it seems :) ) that includes another Abigail-Bible-quote during a battle.

From SFtS:

"Behold, I will make you a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and beat them small, and make the hills like chaff," her mind recited the old, old words coldly as the wreckage began to spread on her tactical plot. "You shall winnow them, the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them."

But all she said aloud was—

"Target destroyed, Ma'am."

You tac-witches truly are phenomenal. I'm serious, I will sue for abandonment if you ever leave the forum. Thanks for this reminder Amaroq. I simply love Abigail and her humorous yet serious, poignant quotes. She really could become a replacement for our Sally Mander. I hope RFC continues to use quotes along with her action. Kicking ass, taking names and reciting bible quotes before introducing enemies to The Tester!

Rose, thanks for the origin of that quote! Interesting info. No less than what I expect from my tac-witches. :geek:

Zilwicki heaved his massive shoulders. For someone built along normal human rather than dwarf lord lines, that would have been a shrug.

I simply love all descriptions of Zilwicki. Always for me, Fantastic Four's Thing comes to mind.

But who the heck could play him on the big screen?
